Pubs and Inns in Shropshire, England.
Hodnet Hall and Gardens, Market Drayton
On the border of Wales, south of Cheshire is Shropshire, cut into two contrasting regions by the River Severn. The northern portion is a well-watered plain broken here and there by a solitary hill. Typical of this region are villages of half timbered houses - Ellesmere and Market Drayton among them.
The county town of Shrewsbury is in a loop of the river between the halves of the county. Its round church, one of the few in Britain, and many Elizabethan buildings are of interest. Nearby is the site of the 1403 Battle of Shrewsbury. The southern half of Shropshire is a hilly region that includes a 10-mile ridge of heathlands called the Long Mynd. Picturesque villages and several castles also are in this part of the county.
