Museum & Art Gallery online: information and bookings

Seven miles from the heart of Oxford lies Waterperry Gardens, 8 acres of beautiful ornamental gardens with a fascinating history. Established as a School of Horticulture for Ladies by Beatrix Havergal in 1932, it is now also home to a plant centre, garden shop, arts & crafts gallery, gift barn, museum and teashop.

The breathtaking gardens feature a 200 foot long herbaceous border, formal knot and rose garden, colour and contemporary borders, a water-lily canal, riverside walk and herbaceous nursery stock beds from which cuttings for the plants sold in the plant centre are taken. The ancient Walled Garden is also undergoing an exciting re-development to include a cutting garden, vegetables, orchards, a water feature and viewing tower.

The Gallery features beautiful, affordable pieces of art, jewellery, ceramics and textiles and the Gift Barn is a haven for those looking for individual style with a huge variety of gifts. Garden sundries are housed in the garden shop, which is also home to seasonal Waterperry-grown fruit, and their award winning bottled apple juice.

The Museum of Rural Life boasts everything from ancient agricultural tools to the downright bizarre and the Saxon Church on-site contains its original 13th century stained glass windows.

No visit to Waterperry is complete without a visit to the Teashop specialising in home baked cakes and lunches, all cooked fresh on the premises each day using the best local seasonal produce.

Events are held throughout the year at Waterperry along with gardening, arts and crafts courses. Please visit the website for more details.

Waterperry Gardens are just 7 miles from Oxford city centre, within easy reach of the M40 and are open all year round (except between Christmas and New Year).
