The delightful District of Newark and Sherwood, famed for its connections with Robin Hood, extends a warm welcome to you.
Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood are well-known throughout the world but the District has an abundance of other attractions to offer.
Two very interesting market towns, historic Newark-on-Trent with important Civil War connections and the pretty little town of Southwell with its beautiful Norman Minster.
Markets, antiques fairs and good shopping can be enjoyed throughout the District as well as friendly pubs and restaurants.
Visitors will discover a wealth of attractive villages, many of which have retained their special traditions. Famous names such as Charles I, Byron and Darwin are associated with the District of Newark and Sherwood.
A wide variety of interesting attractions, ranging from fine halls, splendid gardens to lively farm parks enhance and make Newark and Sherwood an area truly worth exploring.
Visitors interested in sport will not be disappointed. The District includes an all weather horseracing track, excellent golf courses, good horse riding, fishing and boating. Passing through the area are two long distance footpaths, the Robin Hood Way and the Trent Valley Way.
Newark is the proud home of Sherwood Forest Holiday Village - Center Parcs’ first holiday village in the united Kingdom - an all-season holiday complex with excellent sporting and leisure facilities, plus the Sustraus National Cycle Route.
Many events take place within the District throughout the year including the very popular Robin Hood Festival at Sherwood Forest Country Park and the International Antiques Fairs at Winthorpe near Newark.
