Wakefield is home to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, a visual feast of world famous sculpture set in 500 acres of 18th century parkland. Modern and contemporary art is displayed against the backdrop of stunning vistas and landscapes, alongside underground galleries and indoor exhibitions showcasing the work of artists from around the globe.

Descend 140 metres underground during a guided tour at the National Coal Mining Museum and experience the stories and wit of a real Yorkshire miner whilst exploring Yorkshires industrial heritage and sitting alongside the modern day museum is Hope Pit; an example of mining life in Victorian Britain.

Discover Wakefield’s past at one of the districts Museums; Pontefract Museum, Castleford Museum Room and Wakefield Museum or view the impressive collections of Wakefield Art Gallery, which include the work of local sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. Climb "right up to the top of the hill" with the Grand Old Duke of York at Sandal Castle & Visitor Centre, a War of the Roses battle site, made famous in the children’s nursery rhyme. The ruins stand in a commanding position overlooking the River Calder and the valley below. Listen to tales detailing the murder of a King of England at Pontefract Castle or dare to explore at night during one of the many ghost walks that take place thorough out the year.
