The ever-changing landscape of Surrey offers thousands of acres of open countryside. Well-known beauty spots nestle in the famous North Downs and have stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
An alternative way to experience the splendour of Surrey is from one of its waterways. The River Thames winds through the north of the county, where pleasure boats cruise past the sights of Hampton Court Palace and Runnymede.
The county town of Guildford with its cobbled High Street and historic buildings was once frequented by Lewis Carroll, who is buried here, and today offers excellent shopping in a traditional setting.
Experience the treasures of Surrey’s magnificent historic houses and gardens. Originally a Regency villa, Polesden Lacey is now the regional headquarters of the National Trust. Loseley Park is an inviting Elizabethan mansion which has recently become well-known for its delicious ice cream. With a garden by Gertrude Jekyll, Hatchlands has a fascinating collection of early keyboard instruments that visitors can often hear being played.
A stroll through the world renowned Royal Horticultural Society garden at Wisley is not to be missed. Or enjoy the beautiful 18th century landscape garden at Painshill Park, winding your way through exquisite scenes featuring a gothic style temple, ruined abbey and a magical crystal grotto set around an islanded lake.
