The historic medieval town of Tewkesbury contrasts beautifully with the traditional Cotswold wool town of Winchcombe. Explore the rivers and valleys of the Severn and Avon or enjoy the rolling countryside of the Cotswold Hills.
Tewkesbury is renowned as having one of the best medieval black and white townscapes in the country and has much to delight the visitor. Discover the hidden charms along narrow alleyways where the eaves of crooked timber buildings nearly touch or take a leisurely cruise along the river. Tewkesbury is dominated by the 12th century Abbey. Known to some as the ‘Westminster Abbey’ of the feudal barony, this beautiful building has the highest Norman tower in England as well as rich architecture and artistic heritage.
Winchcombe is a perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds. When you’ve admired its handsome and timeless honey coloured stone buildings, visit the Folk & Police Museum and the secret Railway Museum with its Victorian garden. Surrounding Winchcombe you will find wonderful historic homes, gardens and a taste of past religious life. Discover the romantic ruins of a Cistercian Abbey at Hailes and the glorious gardens of Sudeley Castle with its 1,000 years of Royal connections. See a traditional Jacobean Cotswold manor house at Stanway, a collectors paradise and traditional cottage garden at Snowshill Manor and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway where you can relive the days of steam.

There is some beautiful countryside to discover on foot or bicycle and excellent circular routes are available from the information line or website.
