Footscape, the specialist provider of hiking and heritage tours in Dorset, is based in Dorset and operates only in Dorset. That is why we can provide a very personal service ensuring a hassle-free experience from the moment you arrive until your departure.

We offer a small but meticulously researched range of guided and self-guided walking holidays along the superb World Heritage Jurassic Coast and in unspoilt Thomas Hardy country. These are inclusive of a choice of hand-picked accommodation, transportation to and from the trail (where required) and our own Trail Guides that provide practical information, detailed walking directions and descriptions of the history, legends and personalities of key places along the trail.

For the independent walker our popular inn to inn hiking holiday can be taken along part of the stunning Jurassic Coast or along our timeless Inland Heritage trail. Other independent hikes include up to 6 days in the beautiful region of Purbeck and a short break based in Cerne Abbas, voted in 2008 as “the most sought after village in the country”.

In order to respond to the requirements of families with children, Footscape offers a lot of flexibility on its scheduled self-guided holidays. Daily walking distances can be shortened at either end, if required, as the Footcape vehicle can drop off or pick up anybody who does not want to do the full number of miles. Even alternative activities can be organised for those who wish.

We also operate small-group garden tours, which visit 4 of Dorset's most beautiful gardens and include short optional walks in lovely countryside. Our Thomas Hardy tour - a self-guided walk or an accompanied tour - can be combined with the Garden tour to make a 5 night holiday. It is packed with interest, visiting key places associated with Hardy's life and work, as well as with his much younger friend, Lawrence of Arabia. And last but not least, we have introduced a walking tour of Sherborne, Dorset's most beautiful and historic town, with its two castles owned at one time by Sir Walter Raleigh, its Abbey and its famous boys' school. One of the two days of this tour takes in an iron-age hill fort, believed by many to be the site of Camelot, and a visit to a haunted Tudor manor house.
