cottish Borders home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, dating mainly from 1812 and christened 'Sweet Bowhill' by Sir Walter Scott in his Lay of the Last Minstrel.
Internationally renowned art collection, including Canaletto's Whitehall, works by Guardi, Claude, Ruysdael, Gainsborough, Raeburn, Reynolds, Van Dyck and Wilkie. Superb French furniture, Meisson and Sevres porcelain, silver and tapestries.
Historic relics include Monmouth's saddle and execution shirt, Sir Walter Scott's plaid and some proof editions, Queen Victoria's letters and gifts to successive Duchess of Buccleuch, her Mistress of the Robes.
Completely restored Victorian kitchen, 19th century horse-drawn fire engine, Bowhill Little Theatre, a lively centre for the performing arts and where, prior to touring the house, visitors can see The Quest for Bowhill, a 20 minute audio-visual by Dr. Colin Thompson.
