Formerly the home of the Dukes of Buckingham and Chandos, this is a house adorned with the traditions of aristocracy and learning. For over one and a half centuries up to the great sale of 1848, the Temple-Grenville family almost continuously rebuilt and refurbished it in an attempt to match their ever growing ambitions with the latest neo-classcism fashion. The House has been part of one of Britain’s leading public schools since it’s sale in 1923. Now owed by Stowe House Preservation Trust, recent restoration has increased visitor access and a new Interpretation Centre brings the history of the family and House to life. Around the House is one of Britain’s most magnificent landscape gardens now in the ownership of the National Trust.
