One of Oxfordshire’s best kept secrets, Waterperry Gardens is quite simply an inspiration. Our 8 acres of ornamental gardens were made famous by Beatrix Havergal’s school of horticulture for ladies which was established at Waterperry in 1932. Nowadays they offer visitors one of the best purely herbaceous borders in the country, rose and formal knot gardens, a waterlily canal, alpine garden and riverside walk.
As well as our gardens, we produce almost all the plants sold in our quality plant centre, housed within the ancient walls of the old kitchen garden. We also have 5 acres of commercial orchards producing unusual, heritage varieties of apples in season and beautiful apple juice pressed onsite.
Waterperry is home to a beautiful Gallery featuring the work of British artists and craftspeople, and if you’re interested in times past, our Museum of Rural Life has a fascinating collection of old – mainly agricultural and horticultural tools from days gone by!
And if that wasn’t enough the estate also boasts a Saxon church – complete with its 13th Century original glass windows!
No visit to Waterperry is complete though without visiting our wonderful Teashop – crammed full of home baked cakes and patisseries, and offering a hot lunchtime menu throughout the year. We source local produce and all our food is freshly baked on the day.
Waterperry Gardens is just 7 miles from Oxford city centre, within easy reach of the M40 and we’re open all year round (except between Christmas and New Year). We also offer visitors a full programme of annual events including outdoor theatre and concerts and a wide variety of gardening, arts and crafts courses. Visit our website for details.
