As a busy Coaching Inn in the 19th century, the hotel really found fame in the 1920s under the tenure of its eccentric proprietor John Fothergill, who put both it and Thame on the map. Fothergill introduced haute cuisine to the provinces, chronicling his experiences in the best-selling book An Inkeeper’s Diary. Now caringly restored, the hotel provides comfortable accommodation, extensive Conference/Banqueting facilities, a large car park and a high standard of cuisine in Fothergill’s Restaurant.
