What better place can there be to stimulate your work or to enjoy your leisure than the setting of a traditional private country estate.

Boconnoc, near Lostwithiel, was a bastion of Royalist support in the Civil war standing out against Parliament at the battle of Braddock Down. In 1717 Boconnoc was bought by Thomas Pitt, former Governor of Madras with part of the proceeds of the Pitt diamond which he had acquired in India and which was later set into the scabbard of Napoleon’s sword. Thomas Pitt founded the political dynasty which was to include two Prime Ministers.

The faηade and much of the internal layout of Boconnoc House was designed by Sir John Soane in his early years. His patron was a grandson of Thomas Pitt who became Lord Camelford. They met on the Grand Tour and Camelford himself became an accomplished architect, designing the Corinthian Arch for his cousins at Stowe. The house is currently being restored and visitors can see work in progress by appointment.

Boconnoc is close to the wooded estuaries of South Cornwall and the beaches of Rock and Trebethric are just 20 miles to the North.

The Estate which will host the Cornwall Flower Show and The Liskeard Steam Fair in 2005, and which has been a loation for several films, provides a range of self-catering accommodation to suit every kind of visitor including estate houses, converted yard buildings and the Tower apartment in the main house. It is a well established venue for weddings and other social activities as well as offering first class facilities for business events. Telephone is available.

Boconnoc, which is noted for its fine woodlands, has its own sawmill where you can order estate grown timber or have this made into traditional or modern pieces by Anthony Fortescue Fine Furniture.
