Raby, home of Lord Barnards family since 1626, is one of the most impressive mediaeval castles in England. Built mainly in the 14th century by the Nevill family, it was the childhood home of Cicely, Rose of Raby, mother of Kings Edward IV and Richard III, scene of the Plotting of the Rising of the North, and a parliamentary Stronghold during the Civil War. History comes to life in the well-preserved halls and chambers which house fabulous art collections and sumptuous interiors.
Every room in Raby Castle, from the magnificent Barons' Hall, where 700 knights gathered to plot the 'Rising of the North', to the Mediaeval Kitchen which was used until 1954, gives an insight to life throughout the ages.
Despite its powerful exterior of towers and fortifications, Raby houses a fabulous art collection and splendid interiors. Treasures include an important collection of Meissen porcelain, tapestries, furnishings and paintings by leading artists such as Munnings, De Hooch, Teniers, Van Dyck and Reynolds.
Raby Castle is situated amidst a Deer-Park, with walled gardens, carriage collection, tearooms, Gift Shop and Adventure Playground .
