A beautifully restored grade I listed historic house and garden from the Arts and Crafts period designed by architect M H Baillie Scott as a holiday home with fantastic views overlooking Lake Windermere and the Coniston fells. The elegant interiors are furnished throughout and retain many original features including stained glass, carved oak panelling, stone carving, decorative plasterwork, metalwork and wall friezes. Tiled fireplaces by William De Morgan are complemented by period furniture and rugs; upstairs is the Arts and Crafts bedroom.
Changing exhibitions of the applied arts, both historical and contemporary are held in the exhibition galleries.
