The National Maritime Museum details inspirational stories of exploration, discovery and endeavour from Britain’s seafaring past as well as examining the continuing effects the oceans still have on the world today. See Nelson’s bullet-pierced coat from his final, fatal battle and discover the courage shown by renowned explorers including Captain Cook, all at the world’s largest maritime museum.

In summer 2011 the National Maritime Museum will open the new Sammy Ofer Wing. The new wing will include a major new gallery for special exhibitions, an open archive centre and library, new learning spaces and improved visitor facilities.

The Queen’s House, completed in around 1638, introduced England to the beauties of Palladian architecture. Once a richly furnished summer villa for Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of Charles I, it is now the principal showcase for the National Maritime Museum’s world-class collection of fine art.

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich is the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the famous Prime Meridian of the World - 0° 0’ 0”. Built for the purpose of finding longitude at sea, Sir Christopher Wren’s Royal Observatory is also a museum of time and astronomy, where it is still possible to see how the Astronomers Royal used to live and work. The Royal Observatory also houses London’s only planetarium which provides a magnificent introduction to the mysteries and wonders of the night sky.
