Wear Valley

Wear Valley is located just to the south west of Durham City and to the north west of Darlington, extending from the Centre of County Durham to the Heart of the North Pennines, and is easily accessible by road, rail, sea or air.
The magnificence of the Wear Valley environment is nationally recognised with much of the area lying within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The scenery is simply superb, the rugged uplands and beautiful valleys are some of England’s finest.


Once the hunting grounds of the Durham’s Prince Bishops, the area is considered by many to be the most attractive of the Durham Dales. The upland scenery is quite breathtaking, offering panoramic views of the surroundings. Lower down the valley the scenery softens but is equally as spectacular.
With a strong heritage, Wear Valley offers visitors the chance to find out about life in the days gone by. Accommodation available is to a very high standard, always friendly and always welcoming.
For the sporting visitor, there are numerous opportunities to enjoy fishing, take in watersports as well as golf.


The area is renowned for its many varied cycling and walking routes and horse riding can also be enjoyed.
